The Intermodal Facility located in Grand Junction, Colorado is the first ever transportation node that will have three modes of transportation. Amtrak, Greyhound, and the local bus service-Grand Valley Transit coupled with taxi service will give the western slope of Colorado a state of the art transportation center. This is an exciting and once in a lifetime project in which, Architect and Community come together to preserve the past and provide an answer in addressing state and local transportation needs and revitalization of the southern downtown area "SODO" of the old heart of Grand Junction. The Grand Junction Depot is on the list of Colorado Historical sites and has been partially restored by the local owner.
The existing historical train depot will be the proposed center for many of the functions, a proposed new facility for Greyhound, which may mimic a turn of the century Round House. Several other existing historical buildings will be renovated and implemented into the design with new construction to enhance the setting and attract the public to this currently overlooked section of the city. Certain pedestrian and bike routes will be invigorated with shops, eateries, landscape and user friendly walkways and lighting to allow the public to move from the Main Street District down to the Historic Intermodal with ease.
Visit often to see the progress of this unique historical transportation center.
