This project is located on a plateau overlooking Spanish Peaks Resort in Big Sky, Montana. Views of Lone Mountain are framed by a forest of old growth trees. The desire was to design a home that did as little harm as possible to the existing old growth. The result is a floor plan where certain spaces jut out from the trees to gather in views, while other spaces remain shrouded by forest. Timbers that had to be taken down are used in porch columns and seats.
Within the design requirements, there were opportunities to create exterior leisure patios that feature a fireplace and built-in hot tub. A cozy Sitting Room/Office uses space in unique ways, and integrates a library ladder as a featured element in the room. Log timbers are used throughout the design in the Great Room, Dining Room, and Entry. The Kitchen features a double island and plenty of space for activity with an emphasis on functionality.
