To further compliment the beauty of the surrounding environment, three different models were rendered for the client each using a different type of stone present on the property.

The main goals for the clients were in steps, the first step is the environment is to be protected and when possible enhanced, reduction in typical residential operating costs, technologies to be incorporated to create and emphasize peace of mind for the homeowner and productivity "to be connected" by internal and external networking. The goals for step 2 were the integration of the built structure and drive to be engrained into the surrounding site, materials to be chosen that create a sense of permanence and history, and a unique style that evolved into the Rocky Mountain Barn.

The environmental goals were the implementation of recycled elements throughout, environmental materials such as space age insulation, energy efficient windows, ground source heat pumps to collect excess heat from the earth, also the first Sterling engines to be used for backup power in a residence, exterior local stone used is in close proximity to the site and existing boulders on the site will be employed all of these elements combined to create a sense of awe at entering this secluded lodge.

The project was based on the 2-pod system with the Guest Residence separated from the Main Residence. The drive was designed to meander through the existing old growth on the site and eventually coming upon the Guest Residence, which was located over the drive to create a sense of entry for passage to the inner courtyard of the project. The main residence's focal point was an old corn crib which is situated next to the entry and clad in local stone at the base and recycled barn wood at the upper portion. The entry was given inspiration by the old growth and ruggedness surrounding this area, therefore large scale stone piers rise up to transform into large wood columns to tie into the roof canopy with dramatic scale and effect.

The project is located at The Yellowstone Club near Big Sky, Montana. A secluded development with a private ski resort, golf course and dramatic views.

This residence is for sale.  For further information please contact:
