We at Centre Sky Architecture approach sustainability in architecture as a critical part of our design process and research agendas. Jamie Daugaard, Principal of Centre Sky Architecture, is a LEED Accredited Professional and provides knowledge and impetus to clients that may be considering applying sustainable technologies to their project. The process of sustainable design is commenced by outlining goals in the beginning of a project and then continually revisiting them through the design process to determine if they are still valid or are migrating toward further goals. These goals can be as simple as a more energy-efficient kitchen, or an implemented heating system that can cut down on utility costs by 30% or more, to a platinum level LEED certified project, or an "off the grid" facility that requires zero fossil fuels to function. Once the goals are established, we go through systems, construction techniques, orientation, costing, tax benefits and materials to define possibilities to the client. As the design progresses so does the "sustainable practices" that are engrained into the design which are eventually priced, modeled, tested, and hopefully approved.
What it all comes down to is a new way of thinking - and a new way of living, whether it is in your primary residence, vacation home, a secluded ranch, or a high density resort development. Our firm is a strong proponent of sustainable design and able to provide services in this sphere of work.
